BUZZIE is said to be back in the studio working on their 3rd disc. No word on who is producing or playing with John McElhenney the band’s founder.

“It’s a quiet project,” he said. “You’ll hear about it when there is something to hear.”

Asked if Ron Flynt or the boys from Cotton Mather would do a repeat from the 2nd Buzzie disc, “Are You Feeling Anything Yet?” Mr. McElhenney smiled and said. “Well, I hear Dana is in the UK and about to get married, so he’s not in the studio with us, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be on the record.”

McElhenney has been doing some work with the experimental ambient band the Martian Dust Devils. And this project is certain to influence the new CD.

“A lot of new technology has come out in the last 5 years that help us work overseas and across long gaps of time. The digital recording technology is just amazing. And it will provide a new sparkle on this disc.”

The current page on the buzzie website that mentions the new CD also mentions says the disc will be dedicated to Robert Marion. “He was a dear friend who passed away in February. And his message to me was always, ‘How is your music?’ So I am letting him know and setting up the disc to honor his memory.”

“And his son Jo Jo Marion is an amazing photographer. And when we ran into each other at SXSW this year I fell in love with the cover photo. Everything came together pretty quickly from that point on. I had the songs and the title, but Jo Jo’s photo spoke volumes to me. The heat, sparseness, lonliness in his photo. It is tortured and beautiful. I hope the new CD can carry some of that theme and grace.”

McElhenney continues about the album, “I don’t know if either of Robert’s sons plays musical instruments. I’ll have to find out if they want to go into the studio. I know when they were kids I got them some of their first drums and guitars. But that was 15 years ago. I have to ask.”

The band is working on plans to do a “very short” tour to support the release.

“Yeah, very short is accurate. Like one gig in LA and a couple shows in Austin. Unless someone picks up the distribution rights and wants us to join a tour, I think it’s gonna be a pretty short run.”

Buzzie’s “Are You Feeling Anything Yet?” To Be Rereleased in Summer 09

Press Release 3-26-09
contact@bigdigital.me

Along with the new BUZZIE disc expected this summer, Big Digital is proud to be reissuing both “Are You Feeling Anything Yet?” AND “Diablo del Soul.”

Both discs have been out of print for several years as the shift to digital began to eclipse the demand for CD versions. But CD Baby and Not Lame Records have both expressed interest in carrying the Hi-Def CD versions of the discs.

“If there is still a request for the CD, we’d like to give’m one,” said, David Silver of CD Baby.

“I tried to contact you a number of times,” said Not Lame’s Bruce Brodeen about Buzzie’s slip out of their online and printed catalog.

Big Digital’s engineering department said, “We’ve heard the roar and we intend to fulfill the demand for full 44.1k, stereophonic, uncompressed audio of the first 2 Buzzie discs! A lot does get lost in the MP3 translation. No matter what compressor you use, it is more like AM Radio than real music. And we want you to get all the detail we put into the recording process. But that’s just our opinion.”

The CDs should be back in stock at both CD Baby and Not Lame Records by the time the new CD is released. For more information on the new CD check out the press release.
